Upload Manager
The oomph Product Engine application allows you to provide a CSV file that will create or update products on your Shopify store.
Accessing the Upload Manager
- Click the oomph Product Engine application in your Shopify apps list
- Click the Uploads link in the top menu bar
CSV Formatted File
CSV formatted files can be created in any spreadsheet application. Your CSV file must include columns for the product_title, primary_variant, and columns for each option that the product will allow. These columns should use the same name as the option name in the Option Manager. You cannot mix and match different values in different options- for example, Beach Shagreen exists in Surfaces, but does not exist in Color- therefore, you cannot use Beach Shagreen in the Color column.
Note: Update files must include existing configurations; when a product is updated, any configurations not included in the CSV file will be removed from the product
Uploading a CSV File
In the Upload Manager:
- Click the Choose File button to select a file from your local computer
- Click the Upload button
- After several seconds, the contents of the file will be displayed on your screen. If there were errors with your file, they will be displayed at the top of the Upload Manager and affected rows will appear in red on your screen.

Reviewing the Upload
Before processing your file, the Upload Manager will parse your CSV file and present any errors it may have found. When parsing, the file is broken up by product (in the event that more than one product exists in the file).
To the right of each product, an indicator is used to specify which kind of import will take place- either an Update Product or New Product import will occur.
Update Product Imports
Update product imports are used to update an existing product. These imports will change the information stored for the product in the oomph Product Engine application and the Shopify storefront. Update files must include existing configuration information from the oomph Product Engine, so it is highly recommended to keep a living document for a product so you can add to it and change options later. In the event you do not have such a document from an existing product, one can be created from the Product Editor.
Update CSV files must use the same Product Title found within the oomph Product Engine application to map correctly. If the name does not match, then your upload may not be recognized as an update and could result in a new product being created.
New Product Imports
New product imports will result in a new product being created in the oomph Product Engine application and on the Shopify storefront. To create a new product, make sure your file has a unique Product Title- if the product title already exists, then the Upload Manager will update a product rather than create a new one.
Running the Upload
When you have reviewed the upload for errors and have determined you are ready to process the import, scroll to the bottom of the Upload Manager and click the Import button. You will be presented with a dialog that will allow you to view the progress of the import, but you do not need to stay on the page or even within the application- the import will complete in the background and may take several minutes to complete.

Common Errors
After uploading a file, you may see errors displayed at the top of the page. These errors will tell you which options and/or values have issues that will affect your upload. It is important to update your file to correct these errors before importing. Common errors found at this point include the following:
- The value “...” does not exist in the option “...” - the most likely cause of this error is a misspelling in your values. Check to make sure that all values in your CSV file are
- The column “...” does not map to a configuration option - the most likely cause of this error is a misspelling in your column names. If the column referenced in the error is a configuration option, check that it is spelled correctly and matches the option in the Option Manager.
- There is an issue with the provided CSV file. Try exporting your file to CSV from Excel and try again. - this error is caused by a malformed CSV file. Try saving your file as a CSV from a different application and upload again.
