⚙️ Configuring a Product for the PDP
Manage Product Image Order
Every PDP will have an image carousel on it that contains the featured media. In order for the image to cycle to the correct product, it must first be ordered properly in the product admin. The order of the Variants is what determines the order of the images. For example, on the DUEX Pro, the first product option is the Gunmetal Grey ( Monitor Only ) option. This means the first image in our media should be the Gunmetal Grey ( Monitor Only ) image. This image should also be the same exact image used for the variant image.
Note: If the file names do not match for both, the images are technically not the same. Please ensure that the image uploaded for the media and variant are exactly the same ( case sensitive ).
Additional images can be added for a single variant but must come before the next variant's image. Let's say for example you wanted to have 3 images for the Gunmetal Grey ( Monitor Only ) Option. The way to do this is to order your images where the additional images are between the previous and next variant's image.
[ VARIANT 1 IMAGE ] [ ADD ON IMAGE ] [ ADD ON IMAGE ] [ ADD ON IMAGE ] [ VARIANT 2 IMAGE ]This is an example of how the layout would look in the event that the variant needs multiple images for the same option.
What Happens When It's misconfigured or left blank?
If the media does not contain any photos, the slideshow will never load. If product variants do not contain images, swapping variants may result in the wrong featured image for that variant being displayed.
Manage Product Description
Every product has a field in the admin for modifying the description of the product. This field is super important for the latest iteration of the PDP. Adding details to this section allows for the description to be rendered on the PDP.
What Happens When It's left blank?
If this section is left blank, you product description in the "Featured Highlights" section will NOT render. If the product does not need a description, this field can be left blank and no issues will arise.
‘New Product’ Tag
Every product has a Tags editor that let's you add and remove tags from products at your own leisure. For the latest iteration of the PDP, we have introduced a new tag called:
New Product
This tag will allow you to flag a product as New. For a visitor to the PDP, this means they will now see a "New" above the product title in the buy panel.
What Happens When It's misconfigured or left blank?
If this tag is not added to a product, the "New" Label above the title will not display. Additionally, this tag IS case sensitive so please only use this tag or this feature will not work.
Metafields
Product Subtitle
the product subtitle metafield allows for an admin to specify a shorter product title for any given product. If you find that any given title is too long, you can use this metafield to shorten it to a title of your choice.
What Happens When it's forgotten?
If the subtitle is left blank, the Buy Panel will fall back to the product's main title defined at the top of every product admin page.
Product Description Bullets
The description bullets metafield is set up so that you can add bullet points under the product title / product review stars in the buy panel. Each bullet point should be seperated by a '||' to denote a new bullet point. See an example below:
Perfect for 14" and Larger Laptops||
14.1" 1080P FHD Display||
Comes in Four Colors||
Only 1.8lbs For Its Size||
Compatible with macOS/ Windows
What Happens When It's misconfigured or left blank?
If the || is not included at the end of each bullet point, then the bullet points will become jumbled on one line. If no bullet points are entered, nothing will be displayed for the bullet points in the left view.
Apply a Template
On any given product, you can apply a theme template to it so that we can customize the output of a PDP's sections independently of one another. Make sure to select the PDP template that should be applied to a give product. For example, there should be a template called duex-max that should be applied specifically to the DUEX MAX product.
What Happens When the wrong template is applied?
Applying the wrong template to a product may result in the output and content of certain sections not being correct for the product you are trying to edit.
