Uploading files to your website

Additional Information can be found: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shopify-admin/productivity-tools/file-uploads

You can upload, manage, and delete files from the Files page in your Shopify admin.

There are a few reasons why you might upload files to your Shopify admin:

  • You want to add an image in the content of a webpage, blog post, product page, or collection page.
  • You want to add an image or logo to customize your theme.
  • You want to make a file available for customers to download.

In most cases, it's easier to upload image files directly when you're adding content to a webpage, blog post, product page, or collection page. You can also upload images directly when you're customizing your theme.

After you upload an image to the Files page in your Shopify admin, you can copy its URL from the Files page. If you want to make a file available for download, then you need to upload it on the Files page in your Shopify admin. Next, add a link to it in a page's content or in your online store navigation.

Tip

When you add or edit a product or collection, you can add a product image or a featured image for a collection. Images that are uploaded directly from a product or collection details page don't appear on the Files page.

File requirements and types

You can upload images, videos, and audio to the Files page in your Shopify admin. The maximum file size for a media file is 19 MB.

Tip

If your video is larger than 19 MB, then you can use a video hosting service like YouTube or Vimeo and add the video's sharing link to your content.

What file types can I upload?

Images

Shopify accepts .jpg, .png, and .gif image file types.

If you upload .svg image files, then they automatically convert to .png. The best file type for product images, pages, and blog posts is .jpg. The best file type for logos, borders, and trims is .png.

Audio and video

You can upload major video and audio file types, such as .mp4, .mov, and .mp3.

If you’re on a trial plan, then you can’t upload video or audio files to Shopify. Learn how to check and update your plan.

Note

You can import products, or customers, or inventory data using .csv files. Importing data by .csv file is not done through the Files page, but through the respective page in your Shopify admin.
